NFL Week 11 Betting – Minnesota Vikings vs. Seattle Seahawks
November 20, 2009 · theboss · Jump to comments
NFL Week 11 Betting – Minnesota Hosts Seattle
If the Lions game taught the Minnesota Vikings anything, it’s they can’t afford to be sloppy. A dominating 27-10 win was mired by dropped passes, miscues and fumbles and it’s not the type of victory that you’d expect from a team as strong as Minnesota coming out of a bye week against the one-win Lions. Facing a dangerous Seattle Seahawks team that boasts a fine passing attack of its own, the Vikings can’t afford the type of careless mistakes that cost them touchdowns and drives against Detroit.
The Vikings’ home defense is surprisingly weak at home. They rank 12th in points allowed with 20.4 points given per game, but they’re dead last in home passing defense giving up 275.3 yards through the air. That is certainly due to the absence of Antoine Winfield in the secondary, but this is also a team that depends on the tactfully named “Shock and AWWE” front four (Allen, Williams, Williams, Edwards) to generate pressure on the quarterback. If Seattle has suffered any major troubles, it’s that their front line doesn’t protect Matt Hasselbeck nearly enough.

That being said, an opportunistic Seattle defense awaits Brett Favre and Percy Harvin if they choose to get too creative and cough up turnovers. You can hardly fault the Vikings for one loss against Pittsburgh, but a 1-5-1 ATS record at home in seven attempts is inexcusable, especially with a double-digit point spread daunting their betting backers.
Seattle Seahawks (4-5) vs. Minnesota Vikings (8-1)
Sunday, November 21st
Metrodome, Minneapolis — 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Minnesota -10.5 (46)
The rushing game for Seattle won’t be able to get off the ground, and my worry for the Seahawks is that their defense disappears on the road. They’re ranked 28th against the pass and 25th against the rush when playing away from home. Considering the caliber they’re facing from Minnesota, I’d be plenty worried if I decided to venture to their side of the betting line.
Minnesota has been able to wipe the floor with bad and mediocre teams. Even as mistake prone as they were against Detroit, they still won by 17-points and covered the spread. For now, I’m counting on Brett Favre to stay resilient while in the confines of the dome. This is certainly the type of game where a typical Favre 4-interception game can occur, but I think the Vikings control the pace of the game by using Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson out of the backfield to move the chains more regularly.
A weak secondary ravaged by injuries and a questionable road offense make Seattle an iffy bet at best. Take the Vikings to cover. They won’t let you down.
Furious Free Pick: Minnesota -10.5 (UNDER)
