NFL Week 15 Free Picks – Arizona Cardinals at Detroit Lions
December 20, 2009 · theboss · Jump to comments
Arizona Must Prove They Can Bounce Back Against Detroit
When the Cardinals lose, they lose badly. Committing seven turnovers against San Francisco is ungodly (sorry, Kurt) but the Cardinals remain in complete control of the NFC West. They get a layup game against Detroit, which will remain without the services of Matt Stafford. With Stafford, I’d give the Lions a fighting chance against a double digit spread. Without him, there’s no way I can trust Detroit.
The Cardinals are making it difficult to trust them too. They don’t just lose – they lose horrifically. A 13-5 ATS record in their last 18 games overall is certainly encouraging, as is a 6-2 SU/ATS record on the road. Against the Lions, they’re 7-3 ATS in 10 games. Yet in Detroit they’re just 2-4 ATS in 6 games .
None of that matters if Stafford isn’t on the field. Daunte Culpepper is robbing Detroit of salary money, and Drew Stanton is already a proven failure at quarterback. Neither of them have the arm strength or precision to take advantage of Calvin Johnson’s ridiculous athletic ability and even Megatron is limping a little these days with an injury.
Arizona Cardinals (8-5) vs. Detroit Lions (2-11)
Sunday, December 20th — Ford Field, Detroit — 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Arizona -12.5 (47)
The Kurt Warner turnover machine wasn’t exactly his fault. An infamous number of fumbles led to Warner trying to do too much and that crushed the hopes of the Cardinals who were just murdered by the Niners. But think back to the last time the Cardinals chunked the cabbage (against Carolina in Week 8), and look at the following game. After a turnover infested game against the Sex Panthers, the Cardinals ravaged the Bears 41-21 with Warner throwing five picks.
What that means is to just simply forget about the Cardinals pathetic attempt on Monday Night last weekend. In my system, the Lions are looking at getting blown out by more than two touchdowns, and considering the offensive punch in Arizona and the complete lack thereof in Detroit, I’d say that’s a safe bet.
Furious Free Pick: Arizona -12.5 (OVER)
